Organized with support from the national telecom regulatory bodies, telcos and service providers in Africa, this Summit provides the latest updates on market and regulatory developments and business opportunities in the Mobile Broadband revolution in Africa. As the broadband market in Africa is growing at a fast pace, mobile broadband is the technology of choice for operators on the continent. Mobile & Wireless Penetration is still at an average of 40%, but growth rates are high. Mobile wireless data services are booming, fueled by the lacking availability of a fixed line infrastructure, and the promise of a positive feedback for nations and personal life. For example, in the increasingly competitive West African markets, operators and ISPs must tend to their network issues - increasing coverage cost-efficiently in off-grid areas; maintaining a high QoS/QoE for their customers; and preventing fraud and theft.
HSPA has been deployed in the more advanced markets in Africa, paving the way for an evolution towards 4G (LTE Advanced or WiMAX 2.0) in the coming years. How could more strategic spectrum planning help to fast-track this evolution? As African operators are planning their mobile broadband strategies, early insights and updated information are key, and it’s time for African telecom players to be updated on the opportunities and technology choices related to 4G. At the same time, meeting the many African regulators & telcos at this Summit, for international service providers and vendors, this will be the best opportunity to find out quickly, how to navigate the fast changing African Mobile Broadband landscape!
How would the growing 4G ecosystem be like? Mobile phones, computer and consumer electronic devices including notebooks, netbooks, UMPCs, gaming devices, cameras, and PMPs will have embedded 4G connectivity. A huge growth in M2M applications enabled by LTE is forecast. Since the LTE standard supports hand-over and roaming to existing mobile networks, most devices will ensure ubiquitous mobile broadband coverage from day one. WiMAX’s growth in Africa has been phenomenal, crisscrossing all over the continent; nevertheless, the advent of LTE or LTE-Advanced, could presage the simultaneous rapid growth of both, particularly, with the possible rollout of WiMAX-LTE new chips as demand kicks in. Indeed, the telecom world is still at the early stages of LTE deployments and evolution of WiMAX into fully mobile networks that present more opportunities for devices and integration between femtocells or more correctly called HomeEnodeB (for LTE) and entertainment and productivity devices is expected. The first stage for 4G Evolution is for networks to roll out to cover large areas and then for new consumer areas to come into play. Of course the mobile WebPhones type device market will develop - however the basic formula is already understood and fought over. New developments including Cloud Computing in the Mobile Broadband space, the rollout of more Mobile Broadband Applications will also be treated.
Join us at this inaugural 3.9G International Summit in Cape Town. Discuss the hottest issues of the African Mobile & Wireless world with your colleagues, meet investors, and strike new deals with current and future business partners. We are expecting top Regulators as well as senior telecom executives from Mobile Operators from Africa, 3G/4G Experts from Europe and Middle East.
